Tinbie x Larkin Litter - Week 2

All four puppies are growing like weeds and doubled their birth weight at the end of the first week. They have become much more mobile and we had to bring in reinforcements to stop them from climbing out of the whelping box. They still can't hear or see, but we are starting to see signs of their eyes opening.

Larkin continues to spend a lot of time in the whelping box with the puppies, but now takes longer breaks during the day and joins us on our normal walks.

They are getting more "furniture" added to their whelping box, such as toys and different surfaces and textures as well as introducing them to some different scents - all in an effort to stimulate brain development. By Day 10 we introduced a small litter box, which they are too young to use just yet, but we put the pellets in early so that they become part of the environment and not "food"!

Towards the end of their second week we removed the puppy rail as the puppies are so big that they get wedged underneath it. It was also helping to facilitate their escapes from the whelping box. They are now robust enough that there is much less chance of Larkin accidently rolling over on to one, so the rail isn't needed anymore.

By Friday there eyes were starting to open - it's always such a thrill to see that happening, although they likely can't see very much just yet.

Their two week "birthday" coincided with the clocks turning back, so here are their 2 week old portraits:
