Blazingstar Rain Litter - Week 3

This week has flown by! The good news is that Puffin is doing very well and has completely recovered from mastitis. We will now just have to keep a very close eye on her when she goes off of the antibiotics next week.

The puppies are now able to pee and poop on their own and are starting to make concerted efforts to use the pee pads and litter tray. Often they only get their front feet on a pad before they go... but it's a good start! Just under half of their whelping box is covered with litter and/or pee pads and the rest is soft comfy bedding. About 90% of the time they are walking over to the correct half to pee and poop.

Because Puffin is on antibiotics, the puppies are getting small amounts of yoghurt and probiotics every day. They LOVE licking it off our fingers. By Friday, their teeth were starting to erupt and I'm sure they will be ready to try real food very soon.

During the course of the week they have started to interact with us and each other much more - sort of playing, but in very uncoordinated ways.

At the end of this week, we are moving the puppies to new digs in the kitchen, where they can become part of our busy household.

The puppies started escaping from the whelping box this week, so we have had to start using the door.

At the end of Week 3, we moved the puppies into a bigger pen in our kitchen. They are no longer able to escape (yet!). The pen has a full-sized litter pan in it and they have been quite good at using it already.

Eveyone seemed pretty pleased with the move, although we will miss having a kitchen table.

Portraits have been taken and will be posted soon!

Three Week Old Portraits They have such adorable faces at this age, so we focused on showing off their lovely expressions this week.
